Reverend Doctor Harold Dorrell Briscoe

Dr. Harold “Dorrell” Briscoe is a writer, speaker, pastor, and public theologian. He focuses on the intersectionality of race, religion, law, and power. He is married to Tracy, and a father to Luke, Noah, Amelia Hope, and Ella Grace.  

He is a 2007 graduate of the University of North Florida where he earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science and History. He is a 2009 graduate of the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. There he earned a master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration on Urban Planning. Dorrell worked in local and state government for five years, across Florida, Texas, and Louisiana. 

Dorrell also taught at the university level as an adjunct professor teaching public administration, management, and leadership to undergraduate students. While teaching, Dorrell pursued and was awarded a master's degree in Theological Studies at Liberty University in 2015.

Dorrell finished his Doctor of Ministry degree at Duke University with a doctoral thesis entitled: There's a Storm Coming Climate Change Adaptation and Natural Disaster Mitigation as a Model for Congregational Leadership During Times of Racial Crisis in America." He has a strong passion for the local church, politics, racial justice, equality and international affairs.

He is the founder and Lead Pastor of The Six:Eight Church in Durham, North Carolina. Six:Eight’s vision is to build a gospel community that is intentionally diverse, cross-cultural and neighborhood-centered by engaging and developing ministries in Downtown and Central Durham.

Keandra Ewing, teacher

Keandra Ewing was born and raised in Dallas, TX and is a proud Texan. She graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Management and a minor in Spanish. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles for a 6 month training program and began doing full time campus ministry. After working on the college campus for many years, she moved to Jacksonville, FL to help run a faith based after school program for inner city youth.

After being in Jacksonville for 8 years, she moved to North Carolina which she likes to call “the land of trees.” Some of the things she is passionate about are speaking, health, racial equity and children. One of her favorite things about living in the Triangle area are all the beautiful nature trails.

JJ Porter, Worship Director & Director of Equity, Justice and Diversity

JJ Porter has been married to his wife, Rachel, since September of 2017. They moved to Durham in June of 2019 and love calling Bull City their home. JJ is originally from Jacksonville, FL. Leading people into God's presence through worship is one of his favorite aspects of the church as well as making sure that we are a church focused on serving the marginalized. JJ and Rachel love spending time with their children Micah, Elijah and Zoe.

Tracy Briscoe, Director of Operations

Tracy is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. She is a graduate of the University of North Florida and worked in the mortgage industry for ten years. In 2008 she transitioned into ministry full-time.

Tracy served as a young adults pastor for eight years in Florida before moving to North Carolina in 2016. She loves living in Durham and is proud to be a Durhamite. Tracy and her husband, Dorrell have four beautiful children: Luke, Noah, Amelia Hope, and Ella Grace.
